Davanagere: In a bold and unexpected move, Deputy Commissioner G M Gangadharaswamy personally took to the streets on Wednesday to crack down on two-wheelers lacking registration numbers.
While walking through the SN Layout area, the DC noticed several young men riding motorcycles that had no number plates. A few such vehicles were also seen parked outside a gym. Rather than turning a blind eye, the DC sprang into action on the spot.
Wasting no time, he immediately contacted the local traffic police and instructed them to confiscate the non-compliant vehicles. The enforcement team responded swiftly and seized the bikes right then and there.
The deputy commissioner didn’t stop at enforcement alone. He took the opportunity to interact with the youth present at the scene. He urged them to respect traffic laws and emphasized that operating vehicles without proper registration was both illegal and unsafe.
This proactive effort by the district’s top official has drawn appreciation from citizens and is being seen as a strong message against traffic violations. His hands-on approach underscores the importance of accountability and road safety.
Many believe this incident will serve as a wake-up call to those flouting vehicle registration norms, especially in urban neighbourhoods. Authorities have also hinted at more surprise checks in the coming days to ensure compliance.
Such visible enforcement sends a clear signal: rules are for everyone, and those ignoring them will face consequences — even if it takes the district’s top official stepping in.
