Mangalore: In observance of World Physiotherapy Day 2025, Father Muller College of Physiotherapy, part of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions, launched its month-long healthcare initiative titled “Move Well, Teach Well: A Physiotherapy Perspective on Teacher’s Health.” Now in its fourth year, the campaign aims to promote the health and wellbeing of school and college teachers across Mangalore by addressing posture, ergonomics, and movement-related issues that are common in teaching professions.

The drive was formally inaugurated at Milagres College, Mangalore, on September 6, and will continue throughout September with visits to various educational institutions. The sessions are designed to educate teachers on managing and preventing musculoskeletal disorders through correct body mechanics and movement techniques, tailored specifically to the physical demands of teaching.

The inauguration event witnessed the participation of faculty members and teaching staff from Milagres Educational Institutions and was graced by several dignitaries. Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, delivered the keynote address, underscoring the importance of physical health and activity for educators. He encouraged teachers to stay active the right way and emphasized physiotherapy’s role in promoting occupational health.

Other dignitaries present included Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Santhumayor, Administrator of Father Muller College of Physiotherapy, and Rev. Fr. Dr. Alwyn Serrao, Campus Director of Milagres Educational Institutions. Prof. Cherishma Dsilva, Principal of Father Muller College of Physiotherapy, welcomed attendees and explained the genesis of the wellness drive, highlighting the need for teachers to prioritize their health amid demanding schedules.

The event’s ceremonial lamp lighting was attended by all dignitaries, including Mrs. Chetana Kumari, IQAC Coordinator. V. Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Nazareth, Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions, delivered the presidential address, urging educators to maintain both physical movement and proper nutrition for holistic health. A memento was presented to the Chief Guest in recognition of his support.

Following the formal inauguration, interactive sessions led by Ms. Leah Mohandas, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at Father Muller College of Physiotherapy, provided hands-on demonstrations and theoretical insights into improving posture and alleviating common physical strains faced by teachers.

As the drive progresses through the month, Father Muller College of Physiotherapy aims to reinforce its commitment to preventive healthcare and community wellness. By focusing on teachers—a group often overlooked in health outreach—the initiative is setting a new benchmark for sustained and meaningful interventions that extend beyond conventional healthcare settings.
