The Karnataka government has introduced four new skilling programs to boost language proficiency, enhance employability, and aid students in transitioning into the workforce. These initiatives, launched in partnership with the British Council, were formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on February 26, 2024, between the Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) and the British Council.
Programs Overview:
- SCOUT Programme:
- Objective: Immersive learning experience.
- Details: 30 students and faculty members from six universities, along with two KSHEC officials, will participate in a two-week program at the University of East London from November 9-22.
- English Skills for Youth:
- Objective: Improve English proficiency for students.
- Details: In collaboration with Microsoft India, this program will benefit 5,795 students from 16 government engineering colleges. It includes 40 hours of self-paced coursework and 30 hours of English Practice Club sessions.
- Capacity Building Training for International Officers:
- Objective: Strengthen internationalization efforts.
- Details: A workshop for 56 participants from 28 universities to enhance their roles in international collaboration.
- Freemium Digital Library Wall:
- Objective: Expand access to learning resources.
- Details: A new digital library at Bengaluru City University offering valuable resources for students and faculty.
State Higher Education Minister M C Sudhakar emphasized that these programs, in collaboration with UK institutions, aim to foster innovation, mobility, and future success.
