Mangalore University to Implement Clear Guidelines for BEd Courses
Mangalore University (MU) is set to introduce clearer guidelines for its BEd courses, addressing long-standing ambiguities in evaluation and mark awarding. These new guidelines, developed by a recently formed committee, aim to provide greater clarity and fairness in the academic process. The proposed amendments have been submitted for approval.
There are approximately 15 BEd colleges affiliated with MU, serving around 1,200 students. Gerald Santosh D’Souza, chairman of the committee, highlighted the issue with the previous 80% rule, which artificially capped the maximum marks at 80%, regardless of higher scores. This rule had no clear justification and led to discrepancies in grading.
Another significant update is the introduction of revaluation and personal seeing of answer papers, a practice that was previously not included. This change ensures that students have the opportunity to review their assessments fairly.
Additionally, the new guidelines alter the practice of moderation committee visits, now allowing these visits during even semesters, as opposed to the former practice of odd semester visits. The amended guidelines will be implemented starting this academic year.
