An MBBS student from Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag has accused senior students of ragging him at Al-Amin Medical College and Hospital, Vijayapura. The alleged incident occurred on Tuesday evening during a cricket match on the college premises.
Hamim, a student from the 2023 batch and captain of his team, claimed that seniors from the 2019 batch harassed him following an argument during the match. The issue gained attention after Jammu and Kashmir student leader Nasir Khuehami shared the incident on ‘X,’ tagging PM Modi, the Home Minister, and Karnataka’s top leaders.
Following the post, senior police officials, including personnel from Vijayapura Rural Police Station, visited the college for an inquiry. However, Dr. Jilani Awati, the college’s medical superintendent, dismissed the allegations, calling it a minor dispute between two teams during the institution’s annual cricket event. He suggested that Hamim might have misrepresented the situation while reporting it to the student leader.
Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi confirmed that five individuals have been arrested, and a case has been registered. Investigations are ongoing to verify the claims and circumstances surrounding the incident.
