Mangaluru: The women’s football team of St. Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, secured the runners-up trophy at the VTU State Level Women’s Football Tournament held at NIE Mysuru on April 11, 2026. The team’s impressive performance highlighted their determination, teamwork, and sporting excellence on a competitive platform.

The tournament witnessed participation from various engineering colleges across Karnataka, making it a highly competitive event. SJEC’s women’s team stood out with their consistent gameplay, strategic coordination, and resilience throughout the matches, ultimately earning the second position.

Strong performance on a competitive stage

The SJEC team displayed remarkable skill and discipline during the tournament. Their journey to the finals was marked by intense matches, where the players demonstrated exceptional control, tactical awareness, and a strong fighting spirit.

The team’s success was guided by the dedicated efforts of Ms. Vaneesha V Rodrigues, Physical Education Director (PED), and Mr. Sudheer, Assistant PED. Their continuous support, training, and motivation played a vital role in preparing the team for the tournament.

The players included Ashline Dsouza (8th Semester AIML), Viola D’Souza (8th Semester CSE), Sweedal Grace Pinto (8th Semester CSDS), Sushritha (8th Semester ECE), Ashika M R and Divija M G (8th Semester EEE), Reola Stefi Mendonca (6th Semester CSBS), Rakshitha K (6th Semester ECE), Dhrathi (5th Semester Mechanical Engineering), Akshaya R Malli and Brahmi (4th Semester CSDS), Annal Esha Noronha (4th Semester EEE), Rachitha M N (4th Semester CSE), Jashmitha P N (2nd Semester CSE), and Nisha Rai (2nd Semester ECE).

Each player contributed significantly to the team’s overall performance, demonstrating dedication and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
