Mangaluru: The 1974, 1975 and 1976 Golden Batches of St Aloysius University will come together to celebrate a Golden Reunion and Convocation Ceremony on Sunday, January 11, at the Robert Sequeira Hall of the LCRI Block. The event will be held jointly with the 1970 SSLC and 1971 PUC batches, marking a rare and meaningful inter-generational gathering of alumni associated with the institution.
The programme will commence at 8.30 am, bringing together former students, teachers, administrators, and guests for a day of remembrance, gratitude, and celebration. Organisers noted that the reunion carries deep emotional and historical significance for the Aloysian community, as it honours five decades of personal journeys shaped by education, discipline, and values imparted by the institution.
Keynote address and dignitaries
The keynote address will be delivered by Mr Ivan D Frank, a member of the 1976 Commerce batch, who is expected to reflect on the evolving role of education and the enduring influence of Aloysian training in professional and personal life.
The programme will be presided over by Rev Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions. The presence of senior university leadership will further underscore the importance of the occasion. Among those expected to witness the ceremony are Rev Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr Ronald Nazareth, Registrar of the University, along with faculty members who continue the academic legacy of the institution.
Their participation symbolises the strong bond between the university and its alumni, reaffirming a shared commitment to excellence, service, and community engagement.
Convocation and ceremonial highlights
The day’s programme will feature several symbolic and ceremonial elements that reflect the spirit of continuity and tradition at St Aloysius. These include the hoisting of the University flag, followed by a formal convocation ceremony, recalling academic milestones achieved by students half a century ago.
A special segment of the event will be dedicated to honouring teachers from the 1975–76 era, acknowledging their role in shaping generations of students and laying strong academic and moral foundations. The ceremony will also include the passing of the baton to the next reunion batch, a tradition that reinforces continuity and sustained alumni engagement.
Such convocation-style gatherings echo the broader meaning of a Convocation, symbolising not only academic achievement but also lifelong association with one’s alma mater.
Human interest and historical value
Organisers highlighted that the Golden Reunion and Convocation Ceremony holds exceptional human interest and historical value for the wider community. Alumni from the 1970s represent a generation that witnessed significant social, educational, and technological change, both within the campus and beyond.
For many participants, the reunion offers an opportunity to reconnect with classmates after decades, revisit cherished memories, and reflect on how their formative years at St Aloysius influenced their life paths. It also serves as an inspiration for younger students, demonstrating the lasting bonds created through education.
The inclusion of the 1970 SSLC and 1971 PUC batches adds to the richness of the occasion, bringing together alumni from different academic streams and eras under a shared Aloysian identity.
Strengthening alumni ties
St Aloysius University has, in recent years, placed increasing emphasis on nurturing strong alumni relations, recognising former students as ambassadors of the institution’s values. Events such as this Golden Reunion not only celebrate the past but also help strengthen networks that can support mentoring, scholarships, and community initiatives in the future.
The University administration has expressed appreciation for the efforts of the organising committee in coordinating the event and ensuring wide participation from alumni residing in different parts of the country and abroad.
