Mangaluru: The NCC Wings and the Youth Red Cross (YRC) Association of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) organised a blood donation camp in collaboration with the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, District Wenlock Hospital to address the acute shortage of blood in the city.
The camp was held on March 11, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sahodaya Auditorium on the university campus. The initiative aimed to encourage voluntary blood donation among students and staff while contributing to the healthcare needs of the community.
Camp inaugurated by Wenlock Blood Bank head
The blood donation camp was inaugurated by Dr Sharath Kumar, Head of the Department at the Wenlock Blood Bank.
The programme was presided over by Rev. Dr Melwyn D’Cunha SJ, Pro-Vice Chancellor of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), along with Dr Charles V. Furtado, Director of the Administrative Block.
NCC officers, Youth Red Cross coordinators, and volunteers played a key role in organising the event and ensuring its smooth conduct.
Strong participation from students and staff
Students, faculty members, and NCC cadets enthusiastically participated in the camp, reflecting the spirit of community service promoted by the university.
Medical staff from the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre supervised the donation process, ensuring proper medical screening and safety protocols for all donors.
At the end of the camp, a total of 98 units of blood were successfully collected.
Promoting voluntary blood donation
The organisers highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation in saving lives and supporting patients in hospitals who require urgent transfusions.
Such initiatives also help create awareness among young people about the value of donating blood and encourage them to contribute regularly to public health efforts.
The NCC Wings and Youth Red Cross Association of St Aloysius University continue to organise community service programmes that promote social responsibility and humanitarian values among students.
