Mangaluru: The Unit of Renal Dialysis Technology at Yenepoya School of Allied Health Science observed World Kidney Day on March 12, 2026, with a series of initiatives aimed at promoting kidney health awareness, patient support, and environmental responsibility.

The programme was organised in line with the global theme, “Kidney Health for All – Caring for People and Protecting the Planet,” reflecting a holistic approach towards healthcare and sustainability.

Food fest raises funds for patient care

As part of the initiative, a Food Fest was conducted earlier on February 14, 2026, at Thannirbavi Beach, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The event successfully raised ₹34,249, which was later utilised for a meaningful cause.

The funds collected through the Food Fest were used to distribute dialysis care kits to patients, providing essential support to those undergoing regular treatment. This initiative aimed to ease the burden on patients and their families while reinforcing the importance of community involvement in healthcare.

Sapling distribution promotes sustainability

In addition to patient support, the programme also focused on environmental sustainability. Saplings were distributed as part of the initiative to encourage eco-friendly practices and raise awareness about the need to protect the environment.

The organisers highlighted the connection between environmental well-being and human health, emphasising that sustainable practices play a crucial role in preventing diseases and promoting overall wellness.

Participation from medical professionals and students

The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, doctors, and administrators, making it a collaborative effort across different sections of the institution.

The programme was graced by several dignitaries, including Dr. Sunita Saldanha, Dean of Yenepoya Allied Health Professions; Dr. Santhosh Pai, Head of the Department of Nephrology; Mr. Nelvin Nelson, Deputy Manager; Mr. Sabith, Deputy Hospital Operation Officer; and Dr. Althaf Khan, Professor in the Department of Urology.

Their presence added significance to the event and reinforced the institution’s commitment to promoting healthcare awareness and patient welfare.

Emphasis on awareness and preventive care

The initiative also underscored the role of educational institutions in creating awareness among students and the wider community about lifestyle-related health issues.
