Mangaluru: A NABH certification course for Quality Managers along with a Gunavatta Yatra awareness programme was organised on March 18, 2026, at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital. The event was conducted by the Quality Council of India (QCI) in collaboration with the Hospital Quality Section of the institution, aiming to strengthen healthcare quality standards and accreditation preparedness.

The programme commenced at 9:00 am with an introduction to the speakers, followed by the inauguration ceremony attended by senior medical professionals and representatives from QCI.

Inaugural session highlights importance of quality care

The inaugural function was graced by Dr. M. S. Moosabba, Principal of Yenepoya Medical College; Dr. Santhosh Pai, Head and Professor, Department of Nephrology, who represented the Medical Superintendent in his absence; Dr. Janardhana Aithala, Faculty from QCI and Head of the Department of Orthopaedics; Ms. Aamrin Pagare, Analyst, National Board for Quality Promotion (NBQP) under QCI; and Dr. Vijeta Thingalaya, Quality Officer at the hospital.

Dr. Vijeta Thingalaya welcomed the gathering and outlined the objectives of the programme. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. M. S. Moosabba emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards in healthcare delivery and highlighted the role of accreditation in ensuring patient safety and service excellence.

The resource persons, Ms. Aamrin Pagare and Dr. Janardhana Aithala, were felicitated with tokens of appreciation for their contributions.

Detailed sessions on NABH standards

The first session focused on NABH certification training for Quality Managers, with 22 participants from various states taking part in the programme.

Dr. Janardhana Aithala conducted the session, elaborating on the NABH entry-level standards. He explained the NABH application process in detail and discussed key aspects such as Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programmes, required policies and procedures, and infrastructure standards necessary for accreditation.

He also highlighted the support mechanisms provided by NABH to assist healthcare institutions in achieving accreditation. The session provided participants with practical knowledge and a structured approach to meeting national quality standards.

Gunavatta Yatra awareness programme

The second session focused on the Gunavatta Yatra awareness programme, which saw participation from around 24 attendees.

Ms. Aamrin Pagare initiated the session by giving an overview of the Quality Council of India and its role in promoting quality across sectors. She explained the objectives of Gunavatta Yatra and its significance in raising awareness about quality improvement initiatives.

Dr. Janardhana Aithala continued the session by discussing the planning process for NABH assessment and provided further insights into entry-level standards. The session was interactive and well-received, with participants appreciating the knowledge shared during the programme.

Platform for networking and best practices

The collaboration with the Quality Council of India provided a valuable opportunity for participants to engage with stakeholders from hospitals across different states. The programme helped build a strong professional network and facilitated the exchange of ideas and experiences.

Participants were also exposed to a range of best practices and innovative approaches in healthcare delivery, which can contribute to improving patient care and institutional efficiency.
