Mumbai: Diljit Dosanjh has revealed that he agreed to promote his long-delayed film Satluj only after confirming that it was released without any edits. The actor said he had one clear condition: if even a single cut had been made to the film, he would not have participated in its promotions.
Diljit confirms film released without edits
During an Instagram Live session with director Honey Trehan, Diljit expressed his happiness that audiences could finally watch the film after years of uncertainty.
The actor explained that although the original title Punjab 95 could not be retained, the film’s content remained completely unchanged.
According to Diljit, he personally verified the final version before agreeing to promote the project.
He said the version released on ZEE5 was identical to the one he had watched in theatres two years earlier.
Diljit added that he had made it clear to the filmmakers that he would not promote the film if any scene had been altered.
Film’s title changed from Punjab 95
The film was initially announced as Punjab 95 but was eventually released under the title Satluj.
Explaining the change, Diljit said the original title could not be retained due to certain reasons, though he did not elaborate further.
Despite the new title, the actor stressed that the story and scenes remain exactly as intended by the filmmakers.
His remarks have reassured fans who were concerned that the final release might differ significantly from the original version.
Film faced a prolonged release delay
Satluj remained unreleased for nearly three years amid reports of differences between the filmmakers and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Earlier reports had suggested that the CBFC sought more than 100 cuts before certifying the film, leading to a prolonged delay in its release.
Although the film’s title was eventually changed, the makers have now released what Diljit says is the unedited version.
Inspired by Jaswant Singh Khalra’s life
Directed by Honey Trehan and produced by RSVP Movies and MacGuffin Pictures, Satluj is inspired by the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra.
The film follows Khalra’s efforts to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of more than 25,000 people during Punjab’s insurgency era despite facing intimidation, political pressure and personal risk.
Alongside Diljit Dosanjh, the film stars Kanwaljeet Singh, Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan in key roles.
Diljit calls the film one of his most meaningful projects
Earlier, Diljit had said he chose to be part of the project because of the profound impact of Jaswant Singh Khalra’s life and sacrifice.
The actor described the screenplay as deeply moving, saying it reflected the real struggles and experiences of many people.
He also said portraying Khalra was a responsibility rather than just another acting assignment and called it one of the most meaningful experiences of his career.
Conclusion
After a release delay of nearly three years, Satluj has finally reached audiences on ZEE5. Diljit Dosanjh has confirmed that while the film’s title was changed from Punjab 95, the version now streaming is completely unedited, adding that he would not have promoted it if even a single cut had been made.
