New Delhi: Ek Tha Tiger, the 2012 blockbuster that launched Yash Raj Films’ ambitious spy universe, is set to re-release in theatres, much to the delight of fans. The official release date is yet to be announced. The film has recently been recognised as the only Indian movie to join the ranks of James Bond and Mission: Impossible films at the International Spy Museum.
Box office success
Upon its release, Ek Tha Tiger became one of the biggest action thrillers in Indian cinema. According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 320 crore worldwide, including Rs 263 crore in gross collections and Rs 198.78 crore nett in India. Its massive success cemented Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s status as one of Bollywood’s most popular on-screen pairs.
About the film
The movie follows Indian intelligence agent Tiger, played by Salman Khan, who is sent to Dublin to observe a professor suspected of sharing nuclear secrets with Pakistan. During the mission, Tiger falls in love with Zoya, the professor’s caretaker, portrayed by Katrina Kaif, who harbours a secret of her own.
The film also features performances by Ranvir Shorey, Roshan Seth, Girish Karnad, and Gavie Chahal. Its gripping action sequences and romantic subplot laid the foundation for a successful spy universe, which later expanded with Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3.
