What began as spontaneous singalongs among four friends has evolved into Mudroad, one of India’s rare country music bands. Initially entertaining party crowds for fun, the group took a leap in 2016, officially forming their band.
Country music remains an unconventional genre in India, but lead vocalist Sheridan Brass and his bandmates—Daniel Selvaraj (vocals & drums) and Joshua Selvaraj (vocals & acoustic guitar)—were deeply influenced by artists like the Zac Brown Band, George Strait, and Darius Rucker. Their music naturally reflected these inspirations. Mark Swaroop (bass), now based in Scotland, continues to collaborate whenever possible.
While their core sound leans towards country, Mudroad also delivers gospel, blues, and rock ‘n’ roll, distinguished by rich harmonies and soulful vocals. “Our chemistry makes the process effortless,” says Joshua. Their performances are split into two sets—one dedicated to country music and another featuring retro dance hits.
The band, now an eight-member ensemble, includes Jerusha Verghese (vocals), Blesswin Winco (lead guitar & music director), Karun Verghese (rhythm guitar), Denvin Lawrence (keyboard), and Aashish Paul (bass). Despite Brass relocating to Dubai, he frequently returns to Bengaluru for performances.
Inspired by The Eagles, Mudroad is gearing up for a tribute concert in late 2025, alongside plans for international gigs. With a mission to revive country music in India, they continue striking a chord with audiences.
