Actor Priyanka Chopra has spoken candidly about her emotional journey to motherhood, revealing that she faced significant challenges before welcoming her daughter Malti Marie through surrogacy.

Chopra and her husband, singer Nick Jonas, became parents in January 2022, four years after their marriage. Their daughter was born prematurely and spent 110 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), a period the couple has described as one of the most difficult times in their lives.

Actor speaks about pregnancy struggles

In a recent interview with Marie Claire, Chopra shared that her path to having a child was not easy.

“Our daughter was very coveted and very desired because I had a really tough time with pregnancies,” she said.

The actor described Malti Marie as her “miracle baby”, explaining that becoming a mother changed her life and priorities completely.

Life after a premature birth

Chopra said the experience of having a premature baby has left her feeling protective and constantly concerned about her daughter’s well-being.

“I think it’s a preemie mom or a NICU mom thing, but I’m still in constant fear,” she said, adding that the feeling of worry persists when her daughter is not nearby.

Despite those fears, the actor said watching her daughter grow has been deeply fulfilling.

“She’s in the middle of a room telling jokes and singing at the top of her voice. It’s such a wonder to me that she’s this human being,” Chopra said.

Parenthood changed priorities

The actor noted that motherhood has reshaped her outlook on life.

“She’s the greatest gift of my life. All my priorities have changed. Everything starts and ends with her,” she said.

Chopra currently lives in the United States with Nick Jonas and their daughter while balancing her work across multiple countries.

Busy schedule with upcoming projects

Alongside her family life, Chopra continues to remain active in international cinema.

She is currently promoting her upcoming film The Bluff, in which she stars alongside Karl Urban.

The actor is also working on a major project directed by S. S. Rajamouli, reportedly titled Varanasi, which features actors Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran.

With work commitments taking her across the United States, India and other international locations, Chopra says motherhood remains the centre of her world.
