Ram Gopal Varma Sparks Debate Over Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan’s Acting Skills
Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, celebrated for his iconic films like Company, Satya, and Sarkar, recently sparked a conversation about the difference between actors and stars in an interview with Pinkvilla. Using Rajinikanth as an example, Varma expressed doubt about whether the superstar could be considered a “good actor.”
According to RGV, acting is more about portraying a character, while stardom relies on a particular performance. He said, “Is Rajinikanth a good actor? I don’t know. I don’t think he can do a role like Bhikhu Mhatre,” referring to the character played by Manoj Bajpayee in Satya. RGV went on to comment that Rajinikanth’s appeal doesn’t rely on traditional acting but on his iconic slow-motion scenes, where he doesn’t need to do much other than walk in slow motion.
Expanding on his thoughts, Varma shared that stars like Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan are often seen as “demigods” by audiences, which makes it difficult for them to fully embody regular characters. He recalled a moment where he couldn’t accept Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of a character suffering from a stomachache, stating, “Demigods can’t become characters.”
In addition to his reflections on acting, Varma recently announced his upcoming project Syndicate, a thriller set to explore the dark truths of human nature, promising a terrifying experience not based on supernatural elements but on real-life horrors.
