Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, celebrated for reshaping Hindi cinema alongside Javed Akhtar, has long been admired for classics like Zanjeer, Sholay, Deewar and Don. Yet, beyond his cinematic legacy, his personal life once became the subject of intense public discussion.

Salim first married Sushila Charak, later known as Salma Khan. The couple had five children — Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Alvira Khan Agnihotri and Arpita Khan Sharma. However, the industry was taken by surprise when he entered into a second marriage with actress and dancer Helen.

A difficult phase for the family

In an earlier interview with Filmfare, Salman reflected on how his father’s remarriage deeply affected his childhood. He revealed that his mother endured emotional pain during that period but handled it with dignity.

As a young boy, Salman found it distressing to see her hurt, particularly when she would wait late into the night for her husband to return home. He admitted that adjusting to the new family dynamic at the age of ten was challenging.

Acceptance over time

Over time, however, relationships evolved. Salim reportedly reassured his children that his commitment to their mother and family remained unchanged.

Gradually, Helen became an integral part of the household. Today, she participates in major family celebrations, including Salim and Salma’s recent sixty-first wedding anniversary.

Salim has also shared that Salman ensures equal affection toward both women, often presenting identical gifts to his mother and Helen.

The story reflects a journey from emotional turmoil to acceptance, highlighting how families can evolve through understanding and mutual respect.
