Actor and author Soha Ali Khan has opened up about how her brother Saif Ali Khan’s divorce from Amrita Singh impacted her personally and how she eventually found her own balance within the family. The once high-profile marriage between Saif and Amrita ended in 2004 after 13 years, following reported differences in personality, lifestyle, and finances.
‘You find your own independent equation’
In a conversation with Nayandeep Rakshit, Soha candidly shared that separations don’t just affect couples, but also their families.
“See, these are things that you don’t have any control over. When a marriage ends, the families also go through some kind of change and adjustment. You may find your own independent equation after some time — there’s a process, but it’s complicated,” she said.
‘Amrita looked after me like family’
Soha spoke warmly about her relationship with Amrita Singh, recalling fond memories from their time together.
“For me, Amrita was someone who… I’ve lived in her house, she’s looked after me, she’s taken me for photo shoots, done so much — we’ve played Scrabble together. And then when that relationship ends, of course, you go through a moment of processing and transition,” she said.
‘There’s a sense of settlement now’
The Tum Mile actor reflected on how time eventually helped heal emotional complexities within the family.
“You allow, firstly, them to find their equation, and then you have to find your own equation within that. So I think that is something that we went through. And now, I think there’s a settlement — the children are all grown up, and you can be yourself, in a way,” Soha concluded.
