Facility set up at AJIMSRC to screen and certify consumption of drugs

Mangaluru: A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre Hospital, Mangaluru has reached a new milestone by setting up a facility to screen and certify the consumption of drugs of abuse/psychotropic substances. This facility can detect and screen the presence or absence of around twelve substances commonly used by drug abusers in this part of the world.

The facility uses the expertise of Biochemistry section and Forensic Experts of A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Mangaluru. It will serve the long standing requirements of law enforcing agencies and also can be used for therapeutic purposes. The facility has the provision to detect and screen drugs/ psychotropic substances such as Cocaine, Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, Tetrahydrocannabinoid, Methadone, Methylenedioxyamphetamine, Opiates, Morphine, Phencyclidine, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines and Tricyclic antidepressants.
