Mangaluru: Kasturba Hospital Laboratory Services in association with BD India organized a 3-day( Oct 17 to 19) training program called First Time Right – Get Samples Right, the First Time and Every Time for the phlebotomists, technicians(Both in-house and external), and nurses.
The structured training program was inaugurated at Dr T M A Pai halls, KMC Manipal. On this occasion, Dr Krishnananda Prabhu- Associate Dean, KMC Manipal said, in the laboratory 70 per cent of mistakes happen in the preliminary stage. This is because of the lack of practical knowledge of the technician. Structured practical training is required to overcome this. Team BD has designed a new training program called First Time Right – Get Samples Right, the First Time & Every Time.
Dr Shiran Shetty, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital, stressed the importance of practical training in the latest technology and congratulated BD India for this initiative.
A structured training program that comprises of Introduction to the latest technology, Live demonstration, Training on best practices, and objective assessment post-intervention on best practices of specimen collection for the nursing and lab staff. Dr Ravindra Maradi, Lab Director, Kasturba Hospital Laboratory Services (KHLS) welcomed the gathering and said, more than 1000 staff will benefit from this training program.
Dr Shwetha, Medical Affairs Manager, BD India gave an overview of the training program. Dr Sushma Belurkar-Head, Clinical Lab, Dr Suba Sooriya P- Head Nursing Services, Jibu Thomas, Associate Director, Mohan Shetty, Manager, and Suchetha Nayak, Associate Manager from Hospital administration were present.
