Mangaluru: The prestigious All India Inter Zone Inter University Chess Championship 2024 was inaugurated at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), in a grand ceremony held at the Dr TMA Pai Hall, KMC, Manipal.
This momentous event, held on 16,17 and 18 Feb 2024, marks a significant milestone in the promotion of intellectual sports within the academic community. It commenced with an inaugural event on 16 Feb 2024.
The championship is organized in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities.
The inauguration was graced by the presence of Dr H.S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor of MAHE, serving as the Chief Guest, and Dr Sharath K Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor – Health Sciences, MAHE, as the Guest of Honour.
Their presence underscored the institution’s commitment to fostering a spirit of intellectual competition and camaraderie among universities across India.

It showcases exceptional talent and dedication, featuring over 100 participants from universities across India. The event includes 6 International Masters and 4 Grandmasters, proving the strategic depth of chess. Additionally, it attests to the high level of competition and talent it attracts.”
