MSLS, Manipal Opens Cancer Interdisciplinary Laboratory

MSLC Manipal Opens Cancer Interdisciplinary Laboratory

Mangaluru: The Manipal School of Life Sciences, in collaboration with Kasturba Medical College-Manipal, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the Global Cancer Consortium, proudly announced the inauguration of the Global Cancer Consortium Interdisciplinary Laboratory. This significant event coincided with a one-day international symposium on translational oncology held at the MSLS.

The event, starting at 9:30 a.m., was opened with a warm welcome from Dr BS Satish Rao, the esteemed Director of Research at Manipal School of Life Science, MAHE. Dr Mahadev Rao, Co-founder of the Global Cancer Consortium and a Professor at the Department of Pharmacy Practice, shared an enlightening overview of the consortium’s journey and its educational and research initiatives.

The chief guest, Dr Sharath K Rao, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences at MAHE, emphasized the crucial role of state-of-the-art laboratories and interdisciplinary teamwork in advancing cancer research. Dr Vivek M Rangnekar, Founding Chair of the Global Cancer Consortium and Associate Director of Markey Cancer Consortium, USA, and Dr Sooryanarayana Varambally, Director of Translational Oncologic Pathology Research at the University of Alabama, USA, were honoured guests who contributed insightful talks. They highlighted the Consortium’s collaborative efforts, and research potential, and stressed the importance of fostering more research collaborations and educational programs in cancer research.

The new Global Cancer Consortium Interdisciplinary Laboratory at the MSLS was inaugurated by Dr Sharath K Rao and Dr Vivek M Rangnekar, marking a significant milestone in cancer research and education. Dr Naveen Salins, Associate Dean of Research at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, concluded the inauguration with remarks on the importance of research in cancer and the Global Cancer Consortium’s role in publishing impactful interdisciplinary research.

The symposium featured engaging research talks by Dr Rama Rao Damerla and Dr Sharada Mailankody from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, as well as Dr Shama Prasada K and Dr Manash Paul from MSLS. The event was attended by many delegates, including faculty, research scholars, and postgraduate students from various institutes of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education and other institutions.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Vivek M Rangnekar, marking the end of a landmark day in the fight against cancer through research and collaboration.
