NITK Celebrates the National Initiative ‘Chips for Viksit Bharat’

“PM’s Vision for ‘India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat,’
a National Semiconductor Initiative Echoed in NITK Surathkal’s Event.”

Mangaluru: The National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, hosted a technical talk and panel discussion on “Careers in Semiconductor” and “Silicon Dandi March (Make in India for IC Design)” respectively.

This event was held in alignment with the national initiative “India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat”, where Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone (virtually) of three semiconductor facilities on 13 March 2024.

NITK Surathkal is proud to contribute to the vision of a technologically advanced India, as embodied in the “India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat” initiative.

This initiative, which saw the foundation stone of three semiconductor projects worth about Rs 1.25 lakh crore being laid on 13 March 2024, aims to position India as a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development.

The technical talk was delivered by Rathnakar S Bhat, CEO/ Director at Karmic design Pvt. Ltd, shedding light on the diverse career opportunities in the semiconductor industry.

The panel discussion featured Rathnakar S Bhat, Jayasheel Shetty, Nitish Dsouza, Adithya Pai from Karmic Design Pvt. Ltd., Manipal, and Dr Kartick Tarafder, Head of the Department, Physics, NITK Surathkal.

The discussion revolved around the “Silicon Dandi March”, symbolizing a strong push towards making India self-reliant in IC (Integrated Circuit) design, resonating with the “Make in India” initiative.

The live streaming of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s speech was featured at NITK campus.

Prof. B Ravi, Director, NITK; Prof. G C Mohan, Dean of Faculty Welfare; Prof. Udaykumar R Yaragatti, Program coordinator; the Dean of Student Welfare; and the Dean of Research and Consultancy, Heads of the departments, faculty staff were present during the event.

The event saw participation from more than 300 students, highlighting the interest and enthusiasm in the field of semiconductors.
