Prime Minister Narendra Modi Virtually Opens NITK Hostels

Surathkal: Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi dedicated three hostels named Brahmagiri (boys hostel for 600 students), Shiwalik (boys hostel for 500 students), and Godavari (girls hostel for 430 students) at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) via Video Conference to the nation. The said project was constructed with a budget of over 130 crores. This event was part of a larger program wherein the Hon’ble Prime Minister, dedicated to the nation’s infrastructure projects worth Rs. 13,300 crores in the education and skill sector. 

The dedication ceremony took place on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 11.00 at the NITK campus. The event was graced by the virtual presence of Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship; Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot, Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka; Shri Siddaramaiah, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka. The event was also graced by the esteemed presence of Shri Nalin Kumar Kateel, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Dhakshina Kannada, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Veteran Indian Army, and Former MLC, Karnataka, Prof. B. Ravi, Hon’ble Director of NITK Surathkal, Corporators Ms. Shobha and Ms. Shalini. 

Shri Nalin Kumar Kateel during his speech referred to the various developmental activities initiated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, and thanked the Prime Minister for the various infrastructure development activities in Dhakshina Kannada, especially at NITK Surathkal.  

He highlighted the role of the present Director, NITK Prof. B. Ravi for actively taking part in various nation-building initiatives.

The event saw the active participation of over 300 including Deans, Administrative Heads, Faculty, Staff, and Students. 

Established in 1960, NITK Surathkal is among the top 12 engineering institutes in India. It has 14 academic departments offering 11 UG, 31 PG, and Doctoral research programs in cutting-edge areas like bio-3D printing, information security, electric transportation, and sustainability. The campus of 294 acres is set in sylvan surroundings along the coastline. The institute has nearly 7000 students, most of them residing inside the campus. Over 275 faculty members, supported by 400+ staff are engaged in teaching-learning, research, development, consultancy, and outreach activities. The institute has produced over 30,000 alumni contributing to the growth of society, and the nation.
