Mangaluru: A casual meeting of the Language and Fine Arts Association turned into chaos when “slithering” guests arrived at the venue to amaze the students.
Xavier Kiran Pinto popularly know as Snake Kiran is an alumnus of St. Aloysius Evening College who is a professional and forest department authorized snake catcher. He has been awarded twice with Aranya Mitra Award by the Karnataka government.
He was at the St. Aloysius College with his team to conduct a seminar on nature and snakes. Kiran was also felicitated on the occasion.
Kiran along with his team members Nithyaprakash Bantwal, Vivek Gowda, Sri Prasad Bantwal, Dheeraj Navoor, Ajay Kulal, Razik, and Nithesh, is involved in conserving snakes and snake eggs. He and his team are working towards promoting awareness about snakes and go on busting myths about these creatures. The team displayed different types of snakes which it had rescued recently. They also gave detailed information about the common misconceptions about snakes and snakebites. Kiran also said that fear is more dangerous than poison.
Kiran also demonstrated the proper first-aid methods to be adopted immediately after a snake bite.
Principal Dr. Manohar Serrao, in his presidential address, wished Kiran the best in his quest for saving and conserving the snake species found in the coastal district. He also appealed to the audience to join hands in saving nature.
The principal of St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) Fr. Praveen Martis said that Kiran had taken away the fear of snakes from all who were present. He lauded Kiran’s noble initiative to educate the masses about the creatures.
Dr. Mahalinga Bhat introduced the guests and conducted the proceedings of the felicitation.
Students’ Council President Sudesh, Vice President Mahesh, Secretary Sr. Renita, association secretaries among others were present.
