Mangaluru: The School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya in Mangaluru is organizing Spandana 2023, a International symposium on the theme “Validation of Family Centered Social Work Method: Contemporary Challenges” on 5 and 6 October 2023. The inaugural session of Spandana 2023 will be held on 5 October 2023 at 10 a.m.

The Chief Guest for the event is Prof. Erland Walseth, Volda University, Norway, and the session will be presided over by Dr. Sophia N Fernandez, Principal of the college. The keynote speaker for the symposium is Karuna SG, a lawyer who has extensive experience in family law.

The symposium will have various sessions to focus on family dynamics, interventions, and engagement. These sessions will be conducted by experts in the field of social work and will provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by families today. The symposium will bring together social workers, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the importance of Family-Centered Social Work and its role in addressing contemporary challenges.

The first general session on validation of Family Social Work will be handled by Dr Bino Thomas from NIMHANS Bengaluru and the second general session ‘Family Dynamics “will be addressed by Dr Miriam Samuel, HOD, School of Social Work, Madras Christian College.

The subsequent session on the topic “therapeutic models for family interventions from fraternal perspectives will be addressed by Jishna John and Jobin John from Fortuwest, UK on 6 October 2023. Another session on Theory Construction for Family Interventions will be handled by Dr Ashok Anthony D Souza, Chairman, Department of Social Work, Rani Chennamma University, Belagavi. A session on Family Engagement in Child Care will be handled by Dr Tony Mathew, Senior Social Worker U K. Followed by this there will be a panel discussion on Family Homeostasis from Couples Perspective.

There will be scientific paper presentations by Researchers, Research Scholars and Academicians in the field of social work. The symposium will provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by families today and the role of social work in addressing them. More than 250 participants are expected to participate.

The Valedictory ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on 6 October 2023. Dr Lovina Noronha, Ave Maria Hospice Palliative Care Centre will be the chief guest. Dr Jenis May, Vice Principal will preside over the programme.
