St Agnes College holds meet on Comp Maths & Research Culture

Mangaluru: The Department of Mathematics of St Agnes College( Autonomous), organized a National level seminar on Computational Mathematics and Research Culture on Thursday, 26 May 2022.

This one-day seminar was inaugurated by Dr Raghavendra A, Principal of Poornaprajna College, Udupi. In his address, he encouraged the participants to take up research and guide others. “Spare your time. Dedication will come later. The resource speakers, who are experts in their respective fields, will give you some knowledge that you can take back with you”. The guest of honour – Dr Chandruhegde, the chairman of the Department of Mathematics of Mangalore University, Konaje, the Principal of St Agnes College – Sr Dr M. Venissa A.C., the Head of the Department of Mathematics – Dr Adelaide Saldanha and the convenor of the programme – Vidya Saraswathi were present on the dais.

Dr Adelaide Saldanha welcomed the gathering and Vidya Saraswathi gave the introductory remarks. The vote of thanks was proposed by Lavita, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mathematics. Kripa  Rasquinha compered the inaugural program.

The first session was on the pigeonhole principal and its applications by Dr Tarakeshwar Singh, Professor of Mathematics, BITS Pilani, Goa. This was followed by a session on mathematical computation with python by Dr Srikanth Pai, a research scholar, ICTS-TIFR, Bangalore. Dr Sooryanarayana from Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Bangalore, spoke on inculcating research culture from the NEP perspective.

Sr Janet Sequeira, Vice- Principal of St Agnes PU College and an Alumna of the College presided over the valedictory program. She spoke about how the college was instrumental in moulding her and also stressed on the importance of research in this day and age. Sandhya C P welcomed the gathering and Ancy DCunha compered the valedictory program.

165 participants from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and from various parts of Karnataka including Hubli and Bangalore participated in the program. 13 lecturers, research scholars and students presented papers on this occasion.
