Mangaluru: The three-year long centenary celebrations of city’s prestigious institution St. Agnes College began here on January 12 with Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo unveiling the logo.
Blossom Oscar Fernandes and former principal of St. Agnes College joined J R Lobo at the launch by releasing balloons in the air.
J R Lobo, addressing the gathering, hailed the selfless service of Apostolic Carmelites in empowering women through education all over the world.
Sr. M Carmel Rita, Provincial Superior, Karnataka province on the occasion of the launch of centenary celebrations, said that the alumni had plans to construct a block at the college as their own project.
Sr. Dr. Carmel Rita launched the website for the centenary designed by Dr. Vishala B K., the chief librarian.
Core committee members of the centenary celebrations headed by an illustrious alumni Meera Aranha, student representatives of the alumni chapters of St. Agnes from Mumbai, UAE, USA and Bangaluru were present on the occasion. Sr. Supriya, Joint Secretary of St. Agnes Institution, Sr. Maria Roopa and former principal Dr. M Olivia were also present.
Students, staff and the alumni performed a flash mob which was the centre of attraction during the launch of centenary celebrations.
Dr. Devi Prabha, Head of the Commerce Department compered and Principal of St. Agnes Degree College Sr. M Jeswina welcomed the gathering.
