Mangaluru: A unique Teachers Day event took place at the World Konkani Centre, dedicated to educators instructing Konkani in different educational institutions across Karnataka. In addition to recognizing each teacher with a Rs 5,000 cash award and a memento, post-graduate students were awarded scholarships of Rs 10,000 each.
Nandagopal Shenoy, a senior auditor and President of the World Konkani Centre, chaired the event and commended the significant contribution of teachers to the advancement of Konkani education. He also announced that the Centre will host an annual Konkani Children’s Festival.
Dr Kasthuri Mohan Pai, associated with the World Konkani Centre Konkani Education Project, explained in detail how Konkani school education has developed in Karnataka with the cooperation of the Centre.
At Mangalore University, Dr B. Devadas Pai, the Director of the Research Department at the Centre, explained the establishment of the postgraduate M.A. Konkani division and the activities undertaken in the last seven years with the cooperation of the Centre. Professor Jayawant Nayaka provided information about the various schemes of the Konkani study chair.
Gilbert D’Souza, Vice President of the Centre, B.R. Bhat, Secretary, and Trustees Dr Ramesh Nayak, Melvin Rodrigues, and Gokul Nath Prabhu were present. Ratnakara Kudva expressed his gratitude.
