Mumbai: Journalism is the panacea of social problems. All of us should respond to the feelings of journalists as they are the lifeline to society. Journalism can guide the Society and such challenges are possible only by qualitative journalism. Because of this, we should not point finger at the work ethics of honest Journalists, instead, we should attempt to encourage them” said Gopal Shetty, Member of Parliament from North Mumbai.
Gopala Shetty was speaking as the chief guest after inaugurating the second award presentation programme held by Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha at MVM Shalini G Shanker auditorium of Mogaveera Bhavan, Andheri (West) on Sunday morning.
Ronse Bantwal, President of Patrakarthara Sangha, presided over the function and K L Bangera, president Mogaveera Vyavastapaka Mandali Mumbai was the guest of honour. Advisory committee member and selection committee working president Dr Sunita M Shetty was also present. The KT Venugopal Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha National Madhyamashree award 2020 is sponsored by Vikas Venugopal son of KT (Late Thulasi Venugopal) family and consists of Rs 25,000 cash, award Plaque and a certificate. Gopala Shetty presented the award to veteran Kannada journalist, former editor of Mogaveera monthly magazine G K Ramesh and honoured him with a shawl, fruits and flowers and congratulated him.
Hailing from different parts, it is indeed exemplary service by the Mumbai Kannadiga Journalists in uniting the society by keeping alive their oneness. Kannadiga’s who came to Mumbai leaving their homeland always revered and rejoiced their honour and pride. They earned the love and gratitude of local people. Our achievements, subjective service is the parameter for this. Despite the prevailing commercial journalism, the service of Mumbai Kannadiga Journalists in imbibing ethics of Journalism is exemplary. Because of this, people of Karunadu earned the status dearest allies in the Maratha land too, said Shetty.
KL Bangera while speaking said Kannadigas came to Maratha land approximately one and half centuries back for their livelihood and became successful due to their long-term vision. This is the result of the integrity of our hard work, legal prowess and vigour. The achievement of Kannada Journalism is one among these. Kannada Journalism in Maharashtra is not an exception. News reporting is a courageous profession and everyone cannot become a journalist. Kannadiga Journalists have become a role model for Journalists of future generations by claiming an award in the name of the great journalist, he said.
Dr Sunita M Shetty spoke about the award and said in the absence of technology in those days KT Venugopal made it possible to take the news to the homeland readers with his subjective reporting. Though he is no more, his memory has become immortal through the award which is an adorable achievement. The objective of the Kannadiga Journalist is highly appreciated. An achievement like this is a good happening for Journalists and journalism. Mumbai is impartible for Kannadiga’s. Kannadigas habituated to unity are witness to harmony rather than dissension. This award is a jewel in the crown in Kannadiga history, she said.
This award has awakened me from my retirement from Journalism and retired life. This is a lifelong honour for me. This award is a recognition of the service of the Nonpartisan Journalist. This award has raised the responsibility and respect for work ethic. I thank Patrakarthara Sangha Maharashtra for honouring me with the award in memory of my dearest Journalist friend KTV said GK Ramesh while replying to the award.
The inevitability of Journalists leading life more of tension than a pension is a misfortune. Born for the upliftment of society, looking at the present direction of Journalism creates fear that it is engaging itself in spoiling the health of society. To keep Journalism strong and powerful, Media’s should avoid betraying the confidence of people. This should be the duty of every journalist, said Ronse Bantwal in his presidential address.
Homage was paid to recently expired Late Jaya C Suvarna a well-wisher of Patrakarthara Sangha, President of Billavara Association Mumbai and working President of Bharath Bank, Late M B Kukyan Honorary member of Sangha, Late Suresh Acharya former joint treasurer of Sangha, senior Journalist Late Bannanje Govindacharya and all other departed journalists.
The dignitaries who were present included trustees of the Mogavera Association, Harish Puthran, Kakshman Shreyan, Devaraj Bangera, Sadananda Kotian, working president of Mogaveera Bank, Preethi Harish Shreyan, Mohan Marnad, Advocate R G Shetty, Vasanth K Suvarna, G T Acharya, Sudhakar Karkera, Naveen K Inna, S K Sunder, Dr, Bharath Kumar Polipu, Omdas Kannangar, Surendra Pujari, Advisory Member of Patrakarthara Sangha, Sudhakar Uchil, Special invitees, Advocate Vasantha Kulakoti, Gopal Thrasi, Savitha S Shetty, Executive Committee Members, Vishwanath Poojari Niddodi, Jayanth K Suvarna and others were honoured with memento and bouquet.
