Udupi: The newly constructed Holy Cross Church at Pamboor near here, was inaugurated, blessed and dedicated by Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi diocese, in the presence of priests, the religious and parishioners on December 18.
Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo was welcomed by Rev. Fr. Paul Rego, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Pamboor along with Vice President Prakash Noronha and Secretary Asuntha D’Souza of the Parish Pastoral Council respectively at 4.45 PM in the newly built church.
The inauguration and blessing of the church commenced at 5 PM by the Bishop. Maurice Noronha, an elderly parishioner and one of the founding members of the church, had the honour of inaugurating the newly constructed building of the church by cutting the ribbon. The Bishop then conducted a brief prayer service in front of the main door and formally opened the doors and entered the church along with the priests, followed by the alter servers and the gathering.
The Bishop then blessed and concreted the Tabernacle and placed the ciborium, containing the Blessed Eucharist, inside the Tabernacle and handed over the keys to parish priest Fr. Paul Rego.
Fr. Paul Rego expressed his gratitude to Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo for blessing and dedicating the new church building. Rev Fr. Stany Tauro, Dean of Shirva Dearnery, Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Dean of Udupi Deanery and Chancellor of Udupi diocese and large number of priests participated in the Eucharistic celebration.
Rev Fr. Stephen D’Souza, Director of Liturgical Commission of Diocese compered the ritual of the blessing of the church.
Later, a felicitation programme was held for all those involved in the construction of the new building, in the church campus. Bishop Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo presided over the programme. Vinay Kumar Sorake, local MLA of Kaup Constituency, Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto, Director of Sampada, Udupi diocese, Rev. Fr. Herold Periera, Director of Small Christian Community, Udupi diocese, Rev. Fr. Paul Rego, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Pamboor, Prakash Noronha, Vice President and Asuntha D’Souza, Secretary of Parish Pastoral Council were present.
Vinay Kumar Sorake in his address appreciated the contribution of the Christian community in all fields of life, especially in education and health, without discrimination.
Asuntha D’Souza proposed a vote of thanks and Hilda Mathias compered the stage programme.
