Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Tuesday that the state budget for 2025-26 does not introduce any new initiatives. Instead, the government aims to strengthen ongoing schemes and extend their benefits to a larger population.
He emphasized that Assam’s developmental approach balances infrastructure expansion with the promotion of cultural and historical heritage. Addressing the assembly, Sarma dismissed claims that the budget was designed for electoral gains, asserting that it merely builds upon pre-existing programs.
While there are no fresh policies, certain enhancements have been made, particularly in the areas of Assamese digital content via an OTT platform and the establishment of the state’s own satellite. Sarma noted that over the past decade, Assam’s budget and capital investments have significantly grown, with equal attention given to both modern infrastructure and heritage conservation.
“This is our vision for comprehensive progress—ensuring development across all sectors,” he remarked.
Responding to criticism regarding direct money transfer schemes, Sarma clarified that these efforts aim to infuse funds at the grassroots level, stimulating economic activity and empowering the underprivileged sections of society.
