BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai has raised concerns over Karnataka’s financial situation, calling it “precarious” and accusing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of evading key questions. He alleged that despite heavy borrowing, capital expenditure has not increased, and funds for guarantee schemes remain unallocated.
Bommai criticized the imposition of over ₹30,000 crore in additional taxes last year, citing hikes in motor vehicle tax, land guidance values, stamp duty, excise rates, milk prices, and bus fares. He warned that the financial strain on Karnataka’s citizens is growing while development remains stagnant.
In response, Siddaramaiah defended his administration, stating that the government is focused on stabilizing the economy after what he described as BJP’s “mismanagement and chaos.” Bommai, however, insists that the CM must provide transparent details on budget allocations, revenue, and expenditures.
