Reaffirming the government’s resolve to elevate the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) to global standards, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday inspected two newly introduced Quick Response Vehicles (QRVs) — compact fire-fighting units engineered to navigate congested urban areas with speed and efficiency.

The demonstration took place at the Delhi Secretariat, where the Chief Minister also unveiled a substantial Rs 504-crore budget allocation for DFS. Of this, Rs 110 crore is earmarked specifically for procuring state-of-the-art fire-fighting equipment. This includes automated water tower (AWT) vehicles, a 32-metre rotating ladder, fire-fighting robots, and the agile QRVs.

“Our vision is to make DFS not just India’s finest, but among the world’s most advanced fire services,” Gupta declared.

Highlighting the benefits of QRVs, she noted their compact design, allowing access to narrow streets, slums, and busy markets. Each unit is equipped with water mist and foam systems, as well as rescue tools like cutters, spreaders, fire extinguishers, and even life-saving gear including stretchers and first aid kits.

The CM further announced plans to deploy 100 of these mini fire vehicles for operations in cramped areas. Additionally, high-risk zones will benefit from AWTs — remote-controlled vehicles outfitted with thermal and optical cameras. Two such AWTs are already in service at Connaught Place and Laxmi Nagar.

A new 32-metre ladder, capable of rotating 360 degrees, will assist in combating fires in multi-storey buildings. Supporting the expansion, Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood confirmed the upcoming acquisition of 100 new fire tenders for citywide deployment.
