Gadag Zilla Panchayat has exceeded its tax collection target, achieving an impressive 100.6% collection rate, securing the 7th position in the state, according to ZP CEO Bharat S.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Bharat credited this success to a special tax collection drive across the district. Out of 122 Gram Panchayats (GPs), 90 achieved full tax collection, overcoming the growing challenge of pending dues. “We set a target of ₹1,387.5 lakh but successfully collected ₹1,395.9 lakh,” he added.

Highlighting past inefficiencies in GP tax collection, he stated that the Zilla Panchayat launched a dedicated Tax Collection Month. Officials were deployed to conduct door-to-door tax collection twice daily, along with organizing awareness rallies in villages. This proactive approach, combined with public cooperation, played a key role in achieving the 100.6% target.

Regular public announcements on GP tax revisions and government regulations also contributed to tax awareness and compliance. Several taluk panchayats surpassed the 100% mark, including Mundaragi (105.2%), Ron (104.8%), Shirahatti (102.4%), Gajendragad (100.6%), Lakshmeshwar (105.2%), and Naragund (100.8%), while Gadag taluk reached 94.8%.

Bharat praised the dedication of tax collectors and the support of local residents, ensuring the district’s remarkable performance in tax recovery.
