Bengaluru – The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) is set to raise milk prices by ₹5 per litre following the state budget on March 7, pending final government approval. Additionally, milk packet sizes will reduce from 1,050 ml to 1 litre, reversing an increase introduced last year.

If approved, the price of Nandini toned milk will increase from ₹44 to ₹47 per litre, marking the sharpest hike in three years. Previous adjustments saw KMF raise prices by ₹3 in 2022 and ₹2 in 2024, compensating consumers with an extra 50 ml per litre, which will now be withdrawn.

The proposal has sparked criticism, with Leader of Opposition Chalavadi Narayanaswamy accusing the government of fiscal mismanagement. He questioned whether the promised ₹5 incentive for farmers would be honored or diverted elsewhere.

KMF Managing Director B. Shivaswamy defended the hike, citing a drop in daily milk procurement from 99 lakh litres to 79-81 lakh litres. He assured that despite the price revision, Nandini milk remains more affordable than many competing brands.
