In a move to deter drivers from avoiding toll payments by not affixing FASTag on their vehicles, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced stringent measures.
Penalty for Non-Affixed FASTag Users
NHAI has mandated a double fee for users who fail to affix FASTag on the front windshield from the inside. This measure aims to curb deliberate toll evasion observed on certain highway routes. Additionally, defaulters may face blacklisting.
NHAI’s Statement
NHAI emphasized that the deliberate non-affixation of FASTag causes unnecessary delays at toll plazas, inconveniencing other highway users. The information regarding penalties for non-compliance will be prominently displayed at all toll plazas to raise awareness among highway users.
Enhanced Monitoring
To ensure compliance, NHAI will record CCTV footage with Vehicle Registration Numbers (VRN) at toll plazas where FASTag is not affixed. This measure will help maintain accurate records of fees charged and vehicle presence in toll lanes.
About NHAI
NHAI is responsible for collecting user fees on approximately 45,000 km of National Highways and Expressways across India, operating around 1,000 toll plazas. The collection follows the National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.
