Tomato prices in Kerala have risen sharply as supply routes have shifted. With shipments from Gundlupete, Karnataka, halted due to a shortage, tomatoes are now sourced from further locations like Kolar (Karnataka) and Madanapalle (Andhra Pradesh). This increased distance has pushed prices up. Since early October, tomatoes have consistently sold for over ₹50 per kg, peaking at ₹60 on October 4.

The disruption from Gundlupete, along with increased demand, has contributed to the price hike. Traders expect relief within a month as Gundlupete supplies recover from rain and pest issues.
