The mortal remains of 26-year-old IPS officer Harsh Vardhan, who lost his life in a road mishap in Karnataka’s Hassan district, were brought to his native village in Saharsa, Bihar. The young officer received a state-honored farewell as grieving villagers struggled to process the untimely loss of a promising life.
Senior officials, including the DIG and SP, joined the somber procession, laying floral tributes to the departed officer. Harsh hailed from Padariya Fatehpur village in Kashnagar under Saharsa jurisdiction, though his family resided in Madhya Pradesh. His father, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, an SDM in Madhya Pradesh, rarely visited the village, while his younger brother Anand Vardhan, an IIT graduate, is preparing for UPSC exams.
The family demanded a detailed probe into the accident. Harsh’s uncle speculated that an overinflated or worn-out tyre could have triggered the incident. Calling for justice, he lamented, “Harsh was the beacon of our family. His loss has left us shattered.”
Villagers fondly remembered Harsh for his humility and warmth. Azad Kumar, a resident, recalled, “He always met everyone with simplicity and kindness. Losing him is a devastating blow, not just to us but to the nation.”
Harsh Vardhan, who was on his way to his first posting as ASP in Hassan, had been a bright student and an inspiration for many. His death is seen as an irreplaceable loss for the community and beyond.
