Haveri: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Lokayukta police on Friday arrested two individuals — including a government doctor — while accepting a bribe of ₹3 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Dr Gururaj Bheemaraya Biradar, a government doctor at the district hospital and a professor of Forensic Science at the Haveri Institute of Medical Sciences, and Channabasaiah Shankrayya Kulkarni, who was assisting him in the act.

According to Lokayukta officials, Dr Biradar had initially demanded ₹5 lakh from a private hospital in exchange for a “favourable” forensic report in a case involving alleged medical negligence. Following negotiations, the bribe amount was brought down to ₹3 lakh.

The duo was caught red-handed while accepting the cash. Officials confirmed that the bribe was intended to influence the outcome of the forensic report in the hospital’s favour.

The arrests have sparked outrage in medical and legal circles, raising questions about ethics in sensitive forensic investigations.
