Have you ever thought that your mattress is nothing less than an investment that you have made for a better sleep? Not only better sleep, but better physical and mental health as well. So, this goes without saying that you must take care of it in such manner that it lasts longer. By offering good care to your mattress from day one, you are giving it the gift of life. On the flip side, if you don’t take good care of it, you are cutting its lifetime by half. So, whether you have bought your mattress online or from a regular store, these tips will keep your mattress happy and healthy.

Flip and Rotate It Periodically

Almost all mattresses available in the market today are one-sided, which means you can’t flip them to the other side. So, do we have a solution here? Yes, we do. If you happen to have any of those modern one-sided mattresses, rotate it periodically (4-5 times a year) to let it wear evenly. There is no denying in the fact that there will be a day when your mattress will wear out beyond repair; however, till then, try and help it wear evenly. On the flip side, if you happen to own a double-sided mattress, try using both the sides to avoid bumps. The good news here is that if you own a mattress from any of the renowned brands like Sunday Mattress that adheres to international standards, you don’t have to worry about flipping and rotating.

Keep Your Inner Monkey in Control

We understand it’s fun to jump on a spring mattress (we all do it when in a hotel room), but, you really need to jump elsewhere if you are looking forward to giving the mattress a long and healthy life. Not only is this ‘fun’ activity dangerous for the fibres and coils in the mattress but also for you. So, keep your inner monkey in control, bring home a trampoline or find any other spot where jumping is fun; but, keep your mattress away from the random jumps. Sadly, there is no exception to this rule. To ensure the longevity of your mattress, you must not jump on it.

Cover it Up

No, merely a bedsheet won’t be able to give your mattress the protection it needs from dirt and stains. A good quality mattress protector will get the job done. Give your mattress the protection it needs by bringing home a breathable, washable and water-proof mattress protector that fits well and keeps you and the mattress away from all the worries. Unless you are a clean freak, you must invest in a suitable mattress protector.

Don’t Forget the Cleaning Sessions

Like all other furnishing items in the house, the mattress also needs to have a fair share of cleaning sessions. Cleaning the mattress regularly can help reduce allergen and dust build up. Your vacuum cleaner can easily help you carry out the cleaning process. In case of accidental spills, baking soda and tea tree oil will come to rescue. Mix ½ cup of baking soda in 5 drops of tea tree oil, sprinkle the mix on the affected part and let it rest for two hours. Vacuum the debris and repeat if needed. Baking soda also helps in disinfecting the mattress and removes the exoskeletons of mites that once called your mattress as their home.

Let it Breath

Proper ventilation is what keeps a mattress healthy and bug-free. People say making the bed in the morning is the right thing to do; however, we have a different theory about it. If you make your bed right after waking up, you are setting up a warm and humid environment for the mites to multiply. In our opinion, make your bed an hour or two after you wake up. Furthermore, let your mattress aerate (take off the bedsheet) by opening the windows.

Change Your Sleep Position

Unless you are not Sheldon Cooper, you won’t have a problem sleeping in different spots. Sleeping in the same spot everyday can cause that area to lose its structure prematurely. So, spread the love and keep switching your sleeping sides if you happen to sleep alone.

Having a good relationship with your mattress is important. Now that you have this comprehensive list of things that you can do take care of your mattress, you don’t need to look any further.
