Mangalore: In a bid to improve elderly care, A.J. Hospital and Research Centre (AJHRC) and A.J. Institute of Hospital Management (AJIHM) have launched a new course on Geriatric Caregiver and Home Health Aide. This initiative is in collaboration with the Central Government and the Healthcare Sector Skill Council, New Delhi.

A.J. Hospital in coastal Karnataka has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first in the region to be certified as an Approved Training Provider for these two prominent programs. The inaugural orientation program was held on July 5, 2024, aiming to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality care for the elderly.

In today’s society, much of the care provided to the senior community is untrained, ad hoc, and often unsafe. This course aims to address these issues by offering certified training on patient handling, care, and treatment in home or assisted living settings. Additionally, the course provides early school leavers and pre-graduates with professional and vocational skills as healthcare aides and geriatric care workers, enabling them to pursue sustainable livelihoods and become productive members of society.

To register for the course, contact the HR Department at 8904001124 or 0824-6613153 during office hours (8:30 AM to 5:00 PM). The course duration ranges from 2 to 5 months, with a nominal fee of Rs. 3,000 for the Geriatric Caregiver course and Rs. 5,000 for the Home Health Aide (HHA) course.

This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the well-being of the senior community by ensuring the provision of compassionate and competent care. Both courses are approved by the Government of India under the Skill Council, New Delhi, and the certificates awarded are recognized both nationally and internationally.
