In Bengaluru, dengue cases are showing a decrease after a significant rise over the past two months. According to the Health Department, there have been 12,558 reported dengue cases within BBMP limits. While the majority of affected individuals have recovered, three fatalities were reported due to severe fever. Though dengue was suspected in some of these deaths, other causes were noted in the mortality audits, preventing them from being officially classified as dengue-related.
The number of cases surged from 1,563 at the end of June to 6,781 in July, driven by fluctuating weather conditions between sunny and rainy periods. However, with the implementation of various preventive measures—such as identifying hotspots, fogging, fever testing, and conducting larval surveys—the number of cases dropped to over 3,000 in August. Daily reported cases, which had reached around 200, now average about 50.
In the first half of September, 1,101 confirmed cases have been recorded. Currently, 21 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals. During the peak of the outbreak, additional beds were allocated for dengue patients across several hospitals, including KC General Hospital, Sir CV Raman General Hospital, Jayanagar General Hospital, Yelahanka, and KR Puram taluk hospitals.
Despite the recent decline in cases, Health Department officials advise continued vigilance. “Dengue cases fluctuate with weather changes, and while numbers have decreased, we cannot declare the situation under control. Precautionary measures should be maintained until the end of October,” the official cautioned.
