Mangaluru: A free cancer screening and awareness camp was conducted at the Indian Coast Guard district headquarters on Monday, in collaboration with the Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (CGWWA), KMC Hospitals Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre, the Indian Cancer Society, and the NGO Jewels Group. The event aimed to promote health and cancer awareness, attracting 150 participants, including 65 females and 85 males.
The camp, organized by the district medical officer, was attended by DIG Praveen Kumar Mishra and Anuradha Mishra, district president of CGWWA. Participants underwent screenings for breast cancer, pap smears, and oral cancer. Educational sessions were also held, focusing on common cancers in men and women. Dr. Sourjya Banerjee, Head of Oncology, and Dr. Neena Mahale, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at KMC Hospital, delivered these informative sessions, stressing the importance of early detection and preventive measures.
The camp not only provided essential screenings but also equipped attendees with valuable knowledge about cancer prevention and the significance of regular check-ups. Observations from the screenings revealed that several patients require further evaluation to ensure comprehensive follow-up and care. The event was deemed successful in raising awareness and addressing critical health concerns in the community.
