In a recent update from Udupi taluk, the health department reported one case of malaria and 46 cases of dengue. During a general meeting at the taluk office, significant achievements and ongoing challenges in healthcare and development were discussed.

Under the malaria control programme, the department exceeded its target by conducting blood tests at 5383 water sources, emphasizing proactive measures to curb the spread of the disease. Compared to 196 cases of dengue reported last year, this year’s tally of 46 cases reflects improved disease management efforts.

The meeting also highlighted successes in vaccination programmes. The pentavalent vaccination achieved 82% coverage out of 476 expected births this year, with Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) and Measles vaccinations reaching 85% and 95% coverage respectively. Cataract surgeries were successfully performed on 48 individuals under the Prevention of Blindness program.

Beyond healthcare, discussions included infrastructure projects such as lake development, emphasizing the need for repairs and enhancements in various areas of Udupi Taluk. The social welfare department addressed issues concerning hostel facilities, scholarships, and support for inter-caste marriages, underscoring efforts to provide equitable opportunities for all communities.

Key officials from various departments, including health, social welfare, and infrastructure, attended the meeting, reflecting a collaborative approach to address community needs and enhance development initiatives in Udupi Taluk.
