In a move to enhance medical research and healthcare technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and Mangalore University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for gamma irradiation of bone allografts. This collaboration will be instrumental in supporting the newly established bone bank at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal.
MAHE, in partnership with Mangalore University’s Centre for Application of Radiation and Radioisotope Technology (CARRT), will conduct routine gamma irradiation to ensure bone allografts are pathogen-free, guaranteeing their safety and quality for surgical use.
At the MoU signing event, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor PL Dharma highlighted the significance of the partnership and expressed hopes for future collaborations. Dr. P Giridhar Kini, MAHE registrar, stressed the importance of gamma irradiation in maintaining the safety standards of the bone grafts.
