Subrahmanya Naik, a 52-year-old resident of Parkala Vithalwadi, has tragically died from leptospirosis, also known as rat fever. Naik began experiencing symptoms, including a fever, and was admitted to a private hospital in Manipal. Despite medical treatment, he succumbed to the illness on the night of August 6.
Leptospirosis, a bacterial infection often spread through contact with water contaminated by animal urine, can be severe and even fatal if not treated promptly. Naik’s diagnosis came after his initial symptoms were assessed at the hospital.
Naik is survived by his wife, son, and extended family and friends. He was well-regarded in his community for his expertise in various trades, including the setup of shamianas (tents) and cable installations in Parkala. His passing has been a significant loss to those who knew and worked with him.
Local residents and authorities are mourning his loss and expressing their condolences to the bereaved family. This incident underscores the importance of addressing and managing public health risks associated with leptospirosis, particularly in areas where such infections are prevalent.
