Tragic Food Poisoning Incident in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A 33-year-old woman, Reshma Begum, has died, and 20 others have fallen ill after consuming momos from a street vendor in the Banjara Hills area. Reshma and her two daughters, aged 12 and 14, ate the momos in Khairatabad on Friday and soon experienced severe symptoms, including diarrhea, stomach pain, and vomiting. Tragically, Reshma passed away on Sunday morning, while her daughters remain hospitalized.
According to Ram Babu, Sub-inspector at Banjara Hills Police Station, the police received a complaint about Reshma’s death and the food poisoning of at least 15 others linked to the same vendor. An investigation revealed that the vendor was operating without a food safety license and was preparing food in unsanitary conditions, including storing dough uncovered in a broken refrigerator.
Samples from the vendor’s food have been sent for lab analysis. Following the incident, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s food safety department and the police have detained two individuals operating the stall. A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been filed.
