Adhd

South Indian actor Fahadh Faasil recently disclosed his clinical diagnosis of Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at the age of 41. ADHD is a chronic neurological condition affecting millions worldwide, characterized by difficulties in focus, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior. Although it can affect individuals of all ages, it’s most commonly diagnosed in children and adolescents. In this piece, we’ll explore ADHD, its symptoms, causes, and available treatments.

What is ADHD ?

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder impacting the brain’s executive function, leading to challenges in impulse control, attention, and task organization. It’s a persistent condition requiring ongoing management, significantly influencing daily functioning.

Symptoms of ADHD

Symptoms can vary and evolve over time, categorized into three main types: predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and combined type. The predominantly inattentive type involves difficulty in focusing and maintaining attention on tasks, with individuals struggling to organize thoughts and easily becoming distracted. The predominantly hyperactive-impulsive type manifests with excessive energy, impulsivity, and difficulty in remaining still or thinking before acting. The combined type, most prevalent, presents a blend of inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms.

Common symptoms include difficulty in task completion, distraction, excessive talking, impulsivity, restlessness, and forgetfulness, persistently impacting daily functioning.

Causes of ADHD

While its exact cause remains elusive, research suggests a combination of genetic and environmental factors contributing to its development.

Treatments for ADHD

While there’s no definitive cure, effective treatments can manage symptoms and enhance quality of life. Treatment typically involves a combination of medication, therapy, and lifestyle adjustments.
