Raipur: Rajesh Punem, a 6-year-old student from the Dugaiguda Porta Cabin in Bijapur’s Usur block, has tragically died after falling severely ill. His death adds to a disturbing trend, with nine children reported dead under similar circumstances in ashram-hostels and Porta Cabins across the Bastar division in the past two months.

Rajesh fell ill on Friday and was initially treated for cold, cough, and fever but was sent back to the hostel after treatment. His condition deteriorated by the next morning, and he was rushed back to the Awapalli hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. A postmortem revealed fluid in his heart cavity, and further tests are underway to determine if Follicular Small Cleaved Lymphoma (FSCL) was a contributing factor.

Recent reports include the deaths of students from fever and diarrhoea and malaria in various institutions, raising significant concerns about the health and safety of children in these facilities.
