Chikkamagaluru, Sep 28 (IANS): A seven-year-old boy named Sonesh tragically passed away, allegedly due to an overdose of an injection in the Chikkamagaluru district on Saturday.
Sonesh, a resident of Kenchapura village near Ajjampura town, was taken to a private clinic after suffering from a high fever. His father, Ashok, has filed a police complaint against Dr. Varun, accusing him of administering the fatal injection.
According to Ashok, Dr. Varun injected Sonesh in the back before sending him home. Soon after, the boy developed blisters and was rushed to a hospital in Shivamogga, where he tragically died on Friday.
Sonesh’s family believes the overdose caused his death, and they have filed an official complaint. Initial inquiries revealed that Dr. Varun holds a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree, which does not authorize him to give injections.
Police have begun an investigation and stated that appropriate legal action will be taken against the doctor as more details emerge.
This is not an isolated incident. On July 5, a baby in Karnataka’s Davanagere district died after alleged injuries during a caesarean section, sparking protests against the responsible doctor. Similarly, in June, a seven-year-old in Bengaluru died from an anaesthesia overdose, leading to a negligence case. In August 2023, a Bengaluru hospital and pediatric surgeon were fined Rs 10 lakh by the KSCDRC for the wrongful death of a 16-month-old child.
